Ross and Clark Lead Gators in Own Invite

San Francisco, Calif.--- SF State cross country held its annual SF State Gator Invitational this morning at Golden Gate Park's Lindley Meadows. The University of San Francisco captured the women's title with the Dons' Michelle Born capturing the individual title with a time of 22:25 in the 6K race. Over on the men's side, it was Chico State University capturing the men's title while Antonio Miramontes won the 8K race with a time of 25:12.
Leading the way for the Gators were Vera Ross (Jr, Oakland, CA/Diablo Valley College) and Scott Clark (Jr, Castro Valley, CA/Castro Valley HS). Ross ran a 22:58 to finish in ninth place while Clarkran a 27:10 to finish in 34th place. The women finished as a team 6th out of 11 teams while the men finished 6th out of 8 teams.
“Our women ran really well today,” said SF State Head Coach Tom Lyons. “Our top three ran a great race and it was nice to see Vanesa and Courtney finish in the top five,” added Lyons. We are looking good for CCAA in two weeks,” noted Lyons. “Over on the men's side, we did not run our top two runners while Kyle ran well as did our freshmen.”
Other top finishers for SF State's women were: Shannon Weston (Sr, Arcata, CA) 16th, 23:33; Tanya Ferreira (So, Watsonville, CA/North Monterey County HS) 28th, 24:06; Vanessa Zuzuarregui (Fr, Clovis, CA/Buchanan HS) 52nd, 25:16; Ashley Ommen (Fr, Manhattan Beach, CA/Mira Costa HS) 69th, 26:05; and Lisa Herrera (So, Morgan Hill, CA/Live Oak HS) 71st, 26:11.
Also running this morning for the Gators were: Diane Gooding (Sr, Parma, ID/City College of San Francisco) 72nd, 26:12; Jessica Frost (So, San Diego, CA/La Costa Canyon HS) 80th, 26:36; Lana Sovereign (Fr, Sacramento, CA/McClatchy HS) 83rd, 26:50; Ashley Hobelman (So, Long Beach, CA/Wilson HS) 89th, 27:22; and Anna Rabanus (Fr, Duesseldorf, Germany/Gorrs Gymnasium) 104th, 31:03.
            Finishing in the top seven for the Gators besides Clark were: Kyle Fujitsubo (So, Rancho Mureita, CA/Sheldon HS) 38th, 27:26; Jason Karbelk (Jr, LaCrescental, CA/Pasadena City College) 45th, 27:44; Paul Broyer (Sr, San Mateo, CA/Aragon HS) 46th, 27:48; Jose Alvarez (Sr, Santa Rosa, CA/Elsi Allen HS) 50th, 27:58; Omeed Moghadam (Fr, Belmont, CA/Carlmont HS) 53rd, 28:11; and Josh Zubia (Fr, Murrieta, CA/Murrieta Valley HS) 54th, 28:13.
            Also running this morning for SF State's men were: Andrew Lavallee (Fr, Fairfield, CA/Armijo HS) 63rd, 28:57 and Mark DePasquale (Fr, Orange, CA/Mater Dei HS) 69th, 29:27.
            SF State will be off until Saturday, October 20, when the Gators participate in the 2007 CCAA Championships in Turlock, California, on the campus of Cal State Stanislaus.
