NEW ORLEANS --For the fourth consecutive year, the SF State Gators track and field team has been named one of the 67 teams in NCAA Division II as an United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team. To earn this distinction, the track and field team has to maintain a cumulative team grade point average of 3.0 or better.
The Gators, under the direction of head coach Terry Burke, had a 3.14 GPA and was one of three teams from the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) to earn this award. Chico State and UC San Diego were the other two teams from the CCAA.
Incarnate Wood posted the nation's highest cumulative grade point average through the winter 2010 team with a 3.64 while Northern Kentucky University was next at 3.61.
Last week,
Brittany Garrett was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team by earning at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA and provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Division II National Indoor or Outdoor Championships.
This past season, the Gators'
Luisa Musika earned All-American honors for the second consecutive season by finishing in second place in the discus at the 2010 NCAA Division II National Outdoor Championships in Charlotte, N.C.
