Gators Blank Yellow Jackets 2-0 in Season Opener

ROHNERT PARK, Calif.— In both team's season opener, it was the SF State Gators blanking the Montana State-Billings Yellow Jackets 2-0 in the First Round of the Seawolf Classic in Rohnert Park, Calif., this afternoon. Hayden Roberts played a role in both goals as he scored the first goal with 8 minutes left in the half and then assisted on the second one with a little less than three minutes left in the first stanza.

SF State had the first chance to put the Gators on top three minutes into the match but Max Talbert's shot was blocked by the MSUB's defense.

The Yellow jackets had their first chance to take the early 1-0 lead stopped by the Gators' Colt Reichl in the 26th minute.

The score remained scoreless until the 37th minute when Roberts connected on a serve from Nick Harb to put the Gators on the board 1-0. Then five minutes later, Roberts sent a cross into the top of the box to Cameron De Jong to give SF State a 2-0 lead heading into the half.

MSUB tried to cut the deficit in half, but Reichl made another one of his four saves in the 54th minute. The Gators' opponent had another chance to cut into SF State's lead but Reichl stopped Michael Aringer's header with 10 minutes left in the match.

For the game, Reichl had four saves in goal for SF State while the Gators outshot their opponents 13-9 including 8-3 in the first half.

SF State will return to the pitch this Saturday, September 7 at 2:30pm as the Gators face Fresno Pacific in the second day of the Seawolf Classic in Rohnert Park. The Sunbirds are currently playing Sonoma State in game two of the Classic and they are scoreless early in the second half.
