Freshman setter Iris Tolenada played a vital role in SF State’s 1-1 weekend, delivering 63 assists (9.00 per set) to go along with 25 digs (3.57 per set), five block assists, four kills and two service aces. Against second-ranked Cal San Bernardino on Friday, Tolenada posted a double-double with 18 assists and 11 digs while knocking down three kills. The following evening at Cal Poly Pomona, she notched her team-leading 22^nd double-double of the year with 45 assists (4.09 per set) and 14 digs (3.5 per set) while matching her season high of five block assists. With her setting totals, Tolenada became SF State’s single-season record holder with 1,232 assists, surpassing Angie Hart’s standard of 1,217 set in 1989. In addition, Tolenada tops the squad this year with 30 service aces and ranks second with 341 digs and 50 total blocks, helping the Gators to a 20-10 record—their best mark since 1988.
