DEPARTMENT OF ATHLETICS INTERVIEW POLICY
To arrange an interview or questions with an SF State student-athlete, coach, or administrator please contact the specific Athletics Communications sports contact. The best time for short interviews is following daily practices. No interviews will be permitted during daily practice sessions. Telephone interviews are available to the media on a "call-back" basis only. Individual player telephone numbers or e-mail addresses WILL NOT be given to members of the media. Players are instructed NOT to conduct interviews when contacted directly. The SF State locker rooms and team training rooms are considered private team areas and are OFF-LIMITS to the media. Requests should be made at least 48 hours in advance to allow proper notification to the player, coach, or administrator.
Interviews on game days will only be granted after the conclusion of the contest and a 10-minute cooling down period will be enforced. After that time, requests for interviews with SF State coaches and student-athletes will be coordinated by a representative from SF State Athletics Communications. Visiting teams will be responsible for their own personnel.
WORKING PRESS CREDENTIALS
Media credentials will be issued to members of the working media only. Credentials for all SF State home games can be obtained by contacting the particular sport contact via e-mail. Credential requests should be made no later than 24 hours prior to a home contest to ensure space availability. Space at the scorer's table cannot be guaranteed.
Official media outlets are defined by SF State Athletics as newspapers, television stations, radio stations, and established websites that provide coverage of SF State Athletics or visiting teams on a regular basis. Websites that allow posting of anonymous information will not be issued credentials.
Season credentials will be issued prior to each season, while single-game credentials are issued on a game-by-game basis. For media covering a team visiting SF State, credentials will be available at the pass list table and may be claimed with a valid ID.
Please note that press areas are working areas. Cheering is grounds for removal and/or revocation of credentials for the remainder of the season.
PRACTICE OBSERVATION
All San Francisco State practices are closed unless the media has requested permission from SF State Athletics Communications. Players and student-athletes may be available for interviews 30 minutes before the start of practice by prior arrangement. Please submit requests 48 hours in advance. If permission is granted to watch practice, the media must remain on the sidelines and not be on or in the practice area itself at any time prior or during practice. Cell phones must be silenced.
