Senior Megan Johnson was a key player in the Gators’ important home victories over Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus last weekend after hitting at a scorching .481 pace in two matches with 27 kills (3.86/set) on a combined 52 attempts with just two errors to go along with 20 digs (2.86/set), six blocks, two setting assists and an ace. Against Chico on Friday, Johnson posted a stellar .419 attack percentage with 15 kills and 12 digs to complete her third straight double-double and 10th of the season. The SF State opposite hitter also recorded a service ace and four block assists, combining with Meagan Wright on the match-securing point as the Purple and Gold came away with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over the Wildcats. The following evening against a pesky Stanislaus squad, Johnson was even better, hitting at a season-best .571 clip after blasting a match-high 12 kills on 21 swings with no errors. The Riverside native also collected eight digs and added two blocks, helping SF State log its ninth sweep of the year in a 3-0 triumph over the Warriors. Thanks in part to Johnson’s efforts, the Gators remain tied for third place in the CCAA standings with an 11-4 conference record and a 16-6 mark overall.
