San Francisco, Calif.---- SF State's women's soccer team had its four game-winning streak snapped this afternoon losing 2-1 to the visiting CSU San Marcos Cougars (8-2-2) this afternoon at Cox Stadium. The Gators (8-5-2) also had their unbeaten home streak snapped at eight.
“It was a well fought game by both teams this afternoon,” said SF State Head Coach
Jack Hyde. “We played really well in the second half, but scored a little too late to overcome the 2-0 deficit,” added Hyde.
Breanna Brenton connected off a corner kick from Taylor Zieincina in the 27th minute to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. The match remained 1-0 CSU San Marcos until the 64th minute, when Katelyn Krauss connected on a penalty kick to increase its lead to 2-0.
The Gators came back and scored at the 87:38 mark when
Robin Bowman (San Francisco, California, Cal State Bakersfield)scored off a ball from
Kara Cunningham (Rohnert Park, California, Rancho Cotate) to cut SF State's deficit in half. The Gators could not get any closer as CSU San Marcos took the 2-1 non-conference victory.
SF State did outshoot the Cougars 11-7 including 8-5 in the second half while
Rachel Lauderdale (Mission Viejo, California, Laguna Hills)had one save in goal for the Gators. Kaycee Gunion had three saves in goal for CSU San Marcos.
The Gators will return to CCAA action this Sunday at 2pm for a game with the visiting Cal State LA Golden Eagles.
