San Francisco, Calif.--- SF State's women's soccer team improved to 2-0 in the CCAA and 3-2-1 overall as the Gators blanked the visiting CSU Dominguez Hills Toros 2-0 this afternoon in a conference match at SF State's Cox Stadium. The Gators also are 3-0-1 on their home field.
“It was a hard fought game this afternoon and was very physical, but we kept our focus and came out with a 2-0 victory,” said SF State Head Coach Jack Hyde. “Our two goals came off of nice crosses from Zoila Marquez and Courtney Hamchuck, which gave Myriah Johnson two great opportunities which he connected on for goals,” added Hyde. “Being 2-0 against two teams from the Southern Division is terrific,” noted Hyde. “The players fought really hard and our starting to do things in the games that we have been practicing on during the week.”
The game was scoreless until the 25:54 mark, when Myriah Johnson (Lakewood, Washington, Clover Park) connected on a cross from Zoila Marquez (Salinas, California, North Salinas)to give the Gators a 1-0 lead. It remained 1-0 until the 65th minute, when Johnson was again connected on a cross this time from Courtney Hamchuk (Laguna Beach, California, Laguna Beach) to give SF State a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Rachel Lauderdale (Mission Viejo, California, Laguna Hills) recorded four saves en route to her third shutout of the season in goal for SF State while Alyssa Congdon had two saves in goal for the Toros (3-4, 1-1 CCAA).
The Gators will return to the soccer field this Friday afternoon at 1:30pm in Rohnert Park for a conference match with Sonoma State.
