No. 16 Sonoma State Records Shutout win over Gators

The Gators Return to Action in Humboldt this Sunday

Rohnert Park, Calif.--- SF State's women's soccer team had their four-game unbeaten streak snapped this afternoon at Seawolf Field by the No. 14 Sonoma State University Seawolves (6-1, 2-0 CCAA) as the Gators lost 2-0.  The Gators fell to 3-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the CCAA.
“We beat ourselves this afternoon,” said SF State Head Jack Hyde.  “As a team, we did not perform well we usually win at least 70% of the balls in the midfield, but today we won just 20%,” added Hyde.  “There were two errors in the back which the Seawolves capitalized on for their goals.”  “Also on our set plays, we did not capitalize on as we have in the past.”

SF State looked like it took a 1-0 lead in the final seconds of the first half, but the Gators were called offsides and Robin Bowman (San Francisco, California, Cal State Bakersfield) goal was called off by the officials.  In the first three minutes of the second half.  Kayce Brawley connected on a pass from Megan Cuningham and Taylor Edmonds to put Sonoma State up 1-0.  The game remained 1-0 until the 77th minute when Brawley connected on her second goal of the game off a rebound from Brooke Peterson to give the Seawolves a 2-0 lead.

SF State was out shot 8-3 including 7-2 by the Seawolves.  Rachel Lauderdale (Mission Viejo, California, Laguna Hills) recorded two saves in goal for the Gators and Courtney Grixti had one save in goal for Sonoma State.

The Gators return to the field this Sunday morning at 11:30am in Arcata, California, for another conference match with Humboldt State.
