San Francisco, Calif.---- With their 1-0 win over the visiting Chico State Wildcats (4-4-2, 0-2-2 CCAA), the SF State Gators' women's soccer team improve to 4-0-1 at home. This was the Gators' fourth shutout of the season with all four coming at Cox Stadium.
“It was a good competitive game from end to end,” said SF State Head Coach Jack Hyde. “Our midfielders played really worked out today and that was the difference in the game,” added Hyde. “Again, Myriah Johnson had a great opportunity off a ball from Prisca Carpenter and converted into what proved to be the game-winner.”
The game was scoreless until the 71st minute, when Myriah Johnson (Lakewood, Washington, Pierce College)scored her third goal of the season off a ball from Prisca Carpenter (Fresno, California, Roosevelt). This was her second game-winning goal of the season.
SF State outshot the Wildcats 10-4 including 8-2 in the second half. Rachel Lauderdale (Mission Viejo, California, Laguna Hills) started the first half for SF State in goal while Emily Hart (Racho Santa Margarita, California, Tesoro) played the second half and had one save. Natalie Bensky had four saves in goal for Chico State.
The Gators (4-4-1, 3-2 CCAA) will host Cal State Stanislaus this Sunday afternoon at 12:30pm. The Warriors defeated CSU Monterey Bay 4-0 this afternoon in Seaside.
