SAN FRANCISCO--- SF State finished its weekend with a 2-0 win over the visiting CSU San Bernardino Coyotes (7-6-1, 6-3-1 CCAA) this afternoon to improve to 5-6-3 overall and 3-5-2 in the CCAA. This was the Gators' third straight shutout and fifth of the season.
“Overall it was a great team effort this afternoon and this weekend,” said SF State Head Coach
Jack Hyde. “Everybody gave 100% today to key gaining six points and two shutouts,” added Hyde.
The first half saw just eight shot attempts including five shot on goal attempts for both teams.
Katie Voss (Pleasanton, California, Amador Valley) recorded the first shot on goal attempt in the 19
th minute, but Laura Lyons recorded one of her three saves for the Coyotes. Then in the 26
th minute, Jaclyn Clark looked to put CSU San Bernardino on top, but the Gators'
Annicia Jones (Sacramento, California, West Campus) recorded one of her three saves.
The Gators put the pressure on CSU San Bernardino in the last five minute of the half and it paid off when
Zoila Marquez (Salinas, California, North Salinas)connected off a missed shot by
Kara Cunningham (Rohnert Park, California, Rancho Cotate) to give the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 43
rd minute.
In the second half, Jenna Sanchez's attempt to tie the game at 1-1 was stopped by Jones in the 51
st minute. The Gators'
Katie Voss sealed the win for the home team when she connected on a breakaway off a ball from
Andrea Carey (Fresno, California, San Joaquin Memorial)in the 77
th minute to give SF State a 2-0 victory.
Jones had three saves en route to her fourth shutout of the season and third straight while Lyons had three saves in goal for the Coyotes.
SF State is now tied for third in the CCAA North Division with Sonoma State and two points behind second place Humboldt State. The Gators will continue their four-game home stand this Friday, October 15
th at 3pm, when they host Humboldt State. SF State lost 1-0 in double overtime to the Lumberjacks earlier this season in Arcata.
