Cal State Monterey Bay Snap Gators' Win Streak at 5 in 2-1 OT Win

Sara Ordaz Scored Her First Goal of the Season This Afternoon

SAN FRANCISCO--- Jessica Pardo scored her first two goals of the season in Cal State Monterey Bay's 2-1 overtime victory over the SF State Gators (8-7-3, 6-6-2 CCAA) this afternoon in a CCAA game at SF State's Cox Stadium. The Gators are still in second place in the CCAA North Division going into the last week of the regular season. SF State is two points behind Division leader, Chico State who had a scoreless tie with Humboldt State this afternoon. The Gators are two points ahead of third place, Sonoma State.
“We made some basic errors this afternoon and did not get away with them as the Otters took advantage of them,” said SF State Head Coach Jack Hyde. “This was a tough game to lose, but we still have a chance to receive a bid to the CCAA Championships with one week left.”
Junior Sara Ordaz (Lodi, California, Tokay) put the Gators on the board in the 18th minute as she connected on a shot from outside the box from 20-yards that went into the left side of the net to give SF State the 1-0 lead.
Myriah Johnson (Lakewood, Washington, Clover Park) attempt to double the Gator lead was stopped by Cal State Monterey Bay's Andrea Davis at the 21:36 mark. Then with 10 minutes to go in the first half, the Gators' Annicia Jones (Sacramento, California, West Campus)stopped Korie Soares' attempt to tie the game for the Otters (4-11-3, 3-9-2 CCAA).

SF State kept the lead until 9 minutes left in the game when Jessica Pardo scored the game-tying goal from 25-yards out for the Otters. The Gators had three chances to take the lead in the final minutes, but Katie Voss (Pleasanton, California, Amador Valley)two attempts went wide and Johnson's attempt was stopped by Davis.
Each team recorded four shots in the overtime period including the game-winner by Pardo with 48 seconds to go on the clock as she connected on a free kick from 20 yards out to give the visitors the 2-1 victory and avenged Friday's 3-2 double overtime loss to the Gators in Seaside.
Jones finished the day with four saves for the Gators while Davis also had four for Cal State Monterey Bay. SF State did out-shoot the Otters 14-12 and also had more corner kicks than its visitors (5-2).
SF State will finish off its 2009 regular season with two home games this coming weekend. On Friday, the Gators will host North Division leader (Chico State) in a 3pm scheduled contest. Then on Sunday at 2pm, they will finish off their 2009 regular season with a home game against Cal State Stanislaus.
