Women's Soccer Plays to A Scoreless Tie with Cal State East Bay

Annicia Jones Recorded Five Saves En Route to Her First Collegiate Shutout in SF State's Scoreless Tie with Cal State East Bay
Hayward, Calif.--- After defeating No. 8 UC San Diego Tritons on Friday afternoon in La Jolla, the SF State women's soccer team came out a little sluggish this afternoon in Hayward and played to a scoreless tie with the Cal State East Bay Pioneers. With the tie, the Gators are now 3-1-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the CCAA.
“We came out a bit tired and were not as sharp as we were on Friday in La Jolla,” said SF State Head Coach Jack Hyde. “Cal State East Bay did a decent job against us this afternoon,” added Hyde. “Getting four points in the opening weekend is pretty good and we continue on doing that during the season, we should be in pretty good shape come November.”
Allyson Freitas (Gardnerville, Nevada, Douglas)shot in the first half was one of the Gators' many scoring chances that did not go into the net for SF State. She hit the ball from outside the box and hit the inside post and bounced out in the 18th minute of the match. Four minutes before Freitas' shot fell short, Kara Cunningham (Rohnert Park, California, Rancho Cotate) had a scoring chance that the Pioneers' Nina Cefalu recorded one of her two saves for the afternoon. SF State had one more chance in the second half, this time it was Katie Voss (Pleasanton, California, Amador Valley) falling short in the 68th minute.

Cal State East Bay (1-3-2, 0-1-1 CCAA) out-shot the Gators 12-7 including 4 to 1 in the two overtime periods. The Pioneers also had more shot on goal attempts (5-2) and more corner kick attempts (5-2). Zula Diaz had three shot on goal attempts including one in the 12th minute that the Gators' Annicia Jones (Sacramento, California, West Campus) recorded one of her five saves. Diaz had one more chance in the 87th minute, but once again Jones rose up to the challenge.
SF State will return home this Friday, September 18 for a 3pm starting match with the CSU Dominguez Hills Toros at Cox Stadium.
