Gators Blank Otters, 4-0

Sara Ordaz Assisted on Two of the Gators' 4 Goals This Afternoon
SAN FRANCISCO--- SF State's women's soccer team continued its winning ways this afternoon as the Gators blanked the visiting Cal State Monterey Bay Otters 4-0 at SF State's Cox Stadium. The Gators improve to 9-2-3 overall and 8-2-2 in the CCAA. They stay in first place in the CCAA North Division, four points ahead of Cal State Stanislaus.

“The second half particularly we executed really well,” said SF State Head Coach Jack Hyde. “Those four goals were classic goals, something that we have been working on in practice,” added Hyde. “We played ourselves into another opportunity for next weekend's two road games at Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus.”

SF State had four early chances to take the 1-0 lead in the first 20 minutes. That is when Kaitlin Dick (Pleasant Hill, California, Berean Christian HS)scored her first collegiate goal off a free kick by Andrea Carey (Fresno, California, San Joaquin Memorial) in the 25th minute to give the Gators the 1-0 lead.

The Otters (2-12, 1-11 CCAA) had a chance to tie it in the 29th minute, but Annicia Jones (Sacramento, California, West Campus)recorded one of her three saves by stopping Sherene Thompson's attempt. SF State had two chances to increase its lead but one was stopped by Graciela Holguin and the other sailed high to send the game 1-0 Gators into the half.

SF State (9-2-3, 8-2-2 CCAA) doubled its lead in the 61st minute as the Otters kicked the ball into their own net. Michelle Spinner (Bakersfield, California, Stockdale)then connected on her fourth goal of the season of a cross from Sara Ordaz (Lodi, California, Tokay) in the 68th minute.

The Gators kept their scoring barrage going as Myriah Johnson (Lakewood, Washington, Clover Park) scored her team high fifth goal of the season off a cross by Ordaz, which was her third assist in two games.

SF State outshot the Otters 16-9 including 9-2 in the second half and also had 11 shot on goal attempts to Cal State Monterey Bay's 3. Holguin had seven saves in goal for the Otters.

The Gators will return to the pitch this Friday at 4:30pm, for a CCAA game with Chico State in Chico.
