SAN FRANCISCO – SF State sophomore forward
Nicole Vanni (Manteca, California, Sierra )connected on an unassisted goal in the 106th minute of the second overtime period to give the Gators the 1-0 conference victory over the visiting Chico State Wildcats this afternoon at Cox Stadium. Vanni connected on a shot in front of the net that went over the goalkeeper's head for the golden goal, which was her first goal of the season.

Jack Hyde. “Today, it was a whole team effort and everyone raised their game,” added Hyde. “It was a great finish by (Nicole) Vanni and
Annicia Jones (Sacramento, California, West Campus) kept us in the game for the fourth straight game.”
SF State (2-1-1, 1-1-1 CCAA) controlled the majority of the game as the Gators recorded 16 shot attempts compared to the Wildcats' 8 including outshooting their visitors 9-4 in the final three periods.
Chico State's first real chance to score was in the 72nd minute when Lisa Webster's shot was stopped by the Gators' Jones. SF State had a late chance to score but
Carly Bliss (San Diego, California, Ranch Bernardo)header sailed wide to send the game into overtime.
Myriah Johnson (Lakewood, Washington, Clover Park)had two attempts in the final minutes of the first overtime, but both of them went wide. The second half did not see a shot attempt until the 103rd minute when Chico State's Carly Singer shot went wide. That is when Vanni's heroics came into play as she connected on the goal in the 106th minute. This was the Gator's fourth straight overtime game.
Sydney Oliver had five saves in goal for Chico State (2-2, 1-1 CCAA) while Jones had three saves in goal for the Gators en route to her third shutout of the season.
The Gators will be on the road for their next two games in Southern California. SF State will face Cal State LA this Friday at 7pm in Los Angeles and Cal State Dominguez Hills a week from today in Carson.
