.CARSON--- Jessica Murphy scored twice including the game-winner with 15 minutes left in the game to give the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros a 2-1 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victory over the visiting SF State Gators this afternoon in Carson. Murphy scored her first goal, which tied the game at 1-1, and scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 75th minute.
“We looked mentally and physically fatigued this afternoon,” said SF State Head Coach
Jack Hyde. “We never really got into the game.”
There were only seven shot attempts in the first 28 minutes of the game, when
Carly Bliss (San Diego, California) connected off a deflection on a cross by
Andrea Carey (Fresno, California, San Joaquin Memorial) and put it in the right side of the net to give the Gators an early 1-0 lead. Murphy then tied the game for the Toros four minutes later from a pass from Marlene Becerra.
Cal State Dominguez Hills (5-1, 3-1 CCAA) had two shot on goal attempts in the final minutes of the half, but
Annicia Jones (Sacramento, California, West Campus) stopped both of them to send the game into the half at one-one tie.
SF State (3-2-1, 2-2) had a chance to break the tie in the 55th minute, but Carey's shot was stopped by Alyssa Congdon, who had three saves on the day. The game remained tie until the 76th minute, when Murphy connected off a pass from Brooke Thompson to give the Toros a 2-1 lead.
The Gators did not have a shot attempt in the final 15 minutes as the Toros held on for the 2-1 conference victory.
Cal State Dominguez Hills out-shot the Gators 18-5 including 10-4 in shot on goal attempts.
Jones finished with 8 saves in goal for the Gators, who will return home to Cox Stadium this Friday, September 24th at 12:30pm as they host the Pioneers of Cal State East Bay.
