SAN FRANCISCO – For the third time this season, the SF State Gators played to a scoreless tie. This afternoon, the Gators tied with the visiting UC San Diego Tritons at SF State's Cox Stadium.
Annicia Jones (Sacramento, California, West Campus)recorded a season high 10 saves en route to her fifth shutout of the season for the Gators.
“I am pleased with two shutouts this weekend and receiving four points for the conference standings,” said SF State Head Coach
Jack Hyde. “We battled really well against a really good team in UC San Diego,” added Hyde. “Once again, we had people off the bench that played well this afternoon.”
The Tritons (4-2-2, 2-2-2 CCAA) outshot the Gators 17-9 for the game and had 9 corner kicks to the Gators' one. Kristin Armstrong recorded four saves in goal for UC San Diego.
SF State (4-2-2, 3-2-1 CCAA) had a chance to win the game in the 64th minute, but
Michelle Spinner (Bakersfield, California, Stockdale)attempt was blocked. Then in the next ten minutes, Jones recorded two of her 10 saves stopping both Mary McWalters and Anne Wethe's attempts.
In the first overtime, Sarah Mctigue had the only attempt for the visitors in the 96th minute but Jones stopped it and then with a little over a minute left Spinner's attempt went high.
In the second overtime, the Gators had their only attempt for the golden goal stopped by Kristin Armstrong in the 104th minute, which came off the foot of
Carly Bliss (San Diego, California, Ranch Bernardo). Then with a little over a minute left, Annette Ilg's attempt for the game-winner hit the cross bar as the game ended in a scoreless tie.
SF State will return to the pitch this weekend as the Gators begin a five-game road trip with a 4:30pm game this Friday, October 1st in Arcata against Humboldt State.
