No. 20 CSULA Hangs On To Defeat Gators, 3-2

Kiley Williams Scored her 3rd and 4th Goals of the Season in the Gators' Heartbreaking Loss to No. 20 CSULA
Box Score LOS ANGELES---- The visiting SF State Gators rallied back from a two goal deficit in the second half to tie the match mid-way through the second half, but the No. 20 Cal State LA Golden Eagles scored a goal with 15 minutes left and held on for a 3-2 win over the Gators.  Kari Gill scored the game-winner off a rebound off a missed shot by Lisa Ohberg as the hosts improved to 10-3-2 overall and 8-3-2 in the CCAA.
 
 “I am really proud of how the team came back from a two goal deficit in the second half to tie the match,” said SF State Head Coach Jack Hyde.  “It was unfortunate on how we lost on that third goal by Cal State LA, as we really battled back this evening.”
 
Michelle Kay went to put the Gators on top in the fourth minute of the first half, but Cal State LA's Jessie Walworth recorded one of her four saves of the match.  Then eight minutes later, Lisa Ohberg gave the Golden Eagles the 1-0 lead as she connected on a cross from Justine Telles.
 
The Gators' Chloe Harrington went to tie the match for the Gators (8-6-1, 6-6-1 CCAA), but Walworth recorded another save to preserve the hosts 1-0 lead.  
 
With just two minutes left in the first half, Cari Gill doubled the Golden Eagle lead as she scored off a pass from Maddi Meighan and Marissa Pickett as Cal State LA took a 2-0 lead.
 
Kiley Williams went to cut the hosts lead in half, but once again Walworth stopped the Gators from putting the ball into the goal as the Golden Eagles took a 2-0 lead into the half.
 
SF State came out strong in the second half as Joanna Pulido's attempt to cut the Golden Eagle lead in half hit the crossbar. 
 
The Gators finally cut the Golden Eagle lead in half as Kiley Williams connected on a ball from Nicole Vanni from outside the 18 in the 67th minute.  Then eight minutes later, Williams tied the match at 2-2 as she scored on a breakaway for the Gators for her second goal of the evening and fourth of the season.
 
Cal State LA came right back less than 30 seconds later as Kari Gill connected off an Ohberg missed shot for what proved to be the game-winner.
 
Nicole Vanni went to tie the match for SF State, but Walworth stopped the attempt in the 77th minute as the Golden Eagles held on for the 3-2 win.
 
Cal State LA, who is second in the NCAA West Region and in the CCAA South Division, outshot the Gators 10-9 including 8-6 in shot on goal attempts.
 
SF State will continue its season ending four-game road trip this Sunday, October 23 at 11:30am, when the Gators travel to Carson for a CCAA match with Cal State Dominguez Hills.  The Gators lost 1-0 earlier this fall to the Toros at home.  Cal State Dominguez Hills defeated Cal Poly Pomona 4-3 this afternoon in Carson.
