Box Score SAN FRANCISCO---- For the second time this season, the SF State Gators and the Cal State L.A. played to a double overtime draw. This time the two teams played to a 1-1 draw at SF State's Cox Stadium.
This afternoon's match saw a combined 44 shot attempts by both teams including 21 on goal. Cal State L.A. held a 23-21 advantage in shot attempts while each team recorded four corner kicks on the afternoon.
The Gators looked like they were going to take an early 1-0 lead, but Gabriella Batmani stopped
Elizet Ceja's header from going into the net in the second minute of the match.
SF State had two more chances to take the lead, but
Stephanie Vanni's shot sailed wide right in the 10
th minute as did
Michelle Kay's in the 11
th minute.
Cal State L.A. (7-5-5, 5-5-4 CCAA) had its first chances be blocked by the Gator defense or sail wide right in the 16
th minute. The first one by Heather Williams and the second one by Allyson Sherwood.
Megan Ollar connected on a header off a free kick by Raquel Gervas in the 17
th minute to give the Golden Eagles the 1-0 lead.
SF State would not go away as the hosts' Kay came right down the pitch, but her attempt went wide right in the 19
th minute. The Gators had another attempt to tie the match at 1-1 be stopped by Batmani in the 27
th minute as she stopped Anisa Marham from tying the match.
Annicia Jones came up big for the Gators in the 30
th minute as she stopped Heather Williams and Alexa Zielinski from doubling the visitors' lead and to send the match into halftime with a Cal State L.A. 1-0 lead.
The score remained 1-0 Golden Eagles until the 65
th minute when Kay connected on her fifth goal of the season off a ball from
Justine Hernandez to tie the match at 1-1.
Both goalkeepers came up with huge saves in the final 25 minutes of the regulation to keep the score tied at 1-1.
Batmani stopped two attempts by Hernandez in the 74
th minute and then Jones stopped Heather Williams' attempt in the 79
th minute to send the match into overtime.
In the first ten minute extra session, Tahne Apo had the first shot on goal attempt stopped by the Gators' Jones in the 93
rd minute. Then a minute later, Jones stopped Alexandra Barrett's attempt for the golden goal.
SF State' first chance in the overtime came in the 95
th minute, but Batmani stopped Ceja's attempt for the golden goal and then with less than 35 seconds left in the first overtime Ceja had her attempt sail high to send the match into the second overtime.
Batmani came up huge twice in the second overtime period as she stopped
Nicole Vanni's attempt for the golden goal in the 106
th minute and Kay's attempt in the 108
th minute as the match ended in a 1-1 tie.
Jones had a career high 13 saves in goal for the Gators (6-8-2, 4-8-2 CCAA) while Batmani had 7 saves for Cal State L.A.
SF State will return to the pitch for the final time this regular season this Sunday afternoon at 2pm, when they host Cal State Dominguez Hills. Prior to the match, the Gators will recognize both teams' seniors including their own in
Annicia Jones and
Nicole Vanni.
