CARSON, Calif.— Cal State Dominguez Hills' Ani Eishoei connected on a ball into the box from Olivia Patterson and kicked it past the Gators'
Annicia Jones for the golden goal in the 104
th to give the hosts the 2-1 double overtime victory.
“This is a tough one to take, I am pleased with the total team effort this afternoon,” said SF State head coach
Jack Hyde. “We just did not take advantage of our chances and the Toros did.”
The Toros (3-6-2, 2-6-1 CCAA) outshot SF State 15-14 but the Gators held the advantage in shots on goal (6-3) and corner kicks (7-1).
SF State had an early chance to take the lead in the 7
th minute but the Toros' Tiffany Hollis recorded one of her six saves stopping
Mari Mendizabal's attempt.
Cal State Dominguez Hills came right down the pitch right after that, but
Annicia Jones stopped the Toros' Briana Behrad's shot on goal attempt and then Claudia Toledo's attempt went wide.
The Gators came right back but Hollis came up big twice in the 15
th minute stopping
Lauren Hayano's and
Elizet Ceja's attempts.
Three minutes later, the Gators were called for a foul in the penalty box and Toledo connected to give the hosts the 1-0 lead.
The visitors had two chances in the final minutes of the half to tie the match at 1-1, but Hollis stopped
Stephanie Vanni's and
Michelle Kay's attempt in the 43
rd minute to send the match into halftime with a Toro 1-0 lead.
SF State came out firing in the beginning of the second half.
Michelle Kay's attempt went wide in the 47
th minute and then in the 56
th minute
Nicole Vanni had two chances to tie the match but one sailed wide and the other was stopped by Hollis.
The match remained 1-0 Toros until the 82:52 mark of the second half when
Nicole Vanni connected on a cross from the left side from
Michelle Kay and chipped it past Hollis to tie the match at 1-1.
The hosts had the last chance in regulation for the win, but Toledo's attempt hit the cross bar in the 88
th minute to send the match into overtime.
In the first overtime period, neither team recorded a shot attempt. The Gators had two corner kicks both by
Nicole Vanni but could not record any shot attempts off of those.
Then in the second overtime, the Toros' Niki Poole's attempt in the 102
nd minute sailed high. Two minutes later though, Eishoei scored the golden goal off a ball from Patterson to give the hosts the 2-1 victory.
Annicia Jones had three saves in goal for the Gators, who will continue their season-long five-match road trip this Sunday, Oct. 7
th at 2pm when they travel to face Cal State L.A. in another conference match. The Golden Eagles are currently facing Cal Poly Pomona in a match in Los Angeles.
