SF State and CSULA Play to a Scoreless Draw

LOS ANGELES----    The SF State Gators and the Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles played to a scoreless double overtime draw this afternoon at Jesse Owens Track in Los Angeles, Calif.  The Gators' Annicia Jones had four saves en route to her second shutout of the season.
 
“This was a hard fought match this afternoon,” said SF State head coach Jack Hyde.  “I am very pleased with the way we played this weekend and to add to it we got a point.”
 
Cal State L.A. (5-3-4, 4-3-3 CCAA) outshot the Gators 10-9, but SF State held a 5-4 advantage in shot on goal attempts.  The Golden Eagles also held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
 
Elizet Ceja went to put the visitors on the board first, but the Golden Eagles' Gabriella Batmani recorded one of her match high five saves in the 21st minute.  The Gators had two more chances in the 36th minute but they sailed high or were blocked by the hosts' defense. 
 
The Golden Eagles had their only chance be stopped by the Gators' Annicia Jones in the 40th minute as she stopped Joanna Almaguer from giving the hosts the early 1-0 lead. 
 
SF State (4-6-1, 2-6-1 CCAA) had two chances in the final minutes of the half to take the lead but Batmani came up big once again.  The first one in the 43rd minute was off the foot of Ceja.  Then in the final seconds of the first half, Batmani stopped Mari Mendizabal from giving the Gators the lead to send the match into halftime tied at zero.
 
The second half was evenly played as there was only three shot on goal attempts. The first one came off the foot of the Golden Eagles' Janet Arroyo as her attempt was stopped by the Gators' Jones in the 74th minute.  Then one minute later, Batmani stopped SF State's Graceann Rettig from giving the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 75th minute.
 
With ten minutes left in the match, Jones came up big again as she stopped the Golden Eagles' Tahne Apo from scoring for Cal State L.A. to send the match into overtime.
 
In the first overtime period, the Gator defense blocked an attempt from Raquel Gervas in the 96th minute.  With less than two minutes left, Batmani stopped the Gators' Anisa Mahram attempt to score the golden goal.
 
In the final ten minutes, there was just one shot attempt as the Gators' Jones stopped Gervas again to preserve the shutout.
 
SF State will continue its season long five-match road trip this coming weekend with a pair of CCAA matches in the Central Valley.  The Gators will travel to Turlock, Calif., this Friday, Oct. 12 for a 7pm starting match with No. 8 Cal State Stanislaus.  Then they will travel north to Chico, Calif., for a 11:30am starting match with Chico State a week from today.
