SAN FRANCISCO----    SF State's Nicole Vanni scored the Gators' first goal this afternoon and assisted in their other to key their 2-1 conference victory over the visiting Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes.  With the win the Gators avenge an earlier season loss to the Coyotes.

“It was a great team effort this afternoon by our players,” said SF State assistant women's soccer coach Robin Bowman.  “We were all on the same page today and this was our best effort so far this season.”

SF State (3-3, 1-3 CCAA) outshot its guests 15-12 including 8-5 in the first half and also held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.  Each team recorded two shot on goals.

The Gators took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute as Nicole Vanni scored her second goal of the season on a cross from Michelle Kay

Cal State San Bernardino (4-2-1, 3-2 CCAA) went to tie the match in the 22nd minute, but Jani Carmona-Urbano's shot sailed high over the goal.

Three minutes later, the Gators looked to increase their lead but Vanni's shot also sailed high.  SF State had another chance to double its lead, but Chelsey Jones stopped Lauren Floro's attempt to send the match into the half with the Gators leading 1-0.

The Coyotes looked to tie the match in the 50th minute, but Soleil Hall's shot was blocked by the Gator defense.  SF State came right down the field, but Lauren Hayano's attempt to give the Gators a 2-0 lead was stopped by Jones.

Six minutes later, the hosts did double their lead as Mari Mendizabal connected on a ball from Vanni for what proved to be the game-winner in the 56th minute.

The guests had three chances by Carmona-Urbano to cut into the Gator lead go array as SF State held on to a 2-0 lead until the 88th minute.

That is when Leilani Konrad connected on a breakaway off a pass from Carmona-Urbano to cut the Gator lead to 2-1, which is how the match ended as the hosts came away with the victory.

Jones had two saves in 70 minutes in goal for the Coyotes while Priscilla Collings played the final 20 minutes in goal for the visitors.

SF State's Annicia Jones had two saves in goal.

The Gators will continue their home-stand this Sunday, September 23 at 2pm, when the host No. 9 UC San Diego.  The Tritons defeated the Gators 3-0 in La Jolla, Calif., on September 7.
