Kelsey Wetzstein scored her first collegiate golden goal after a serve from
Sarah Guensler that
Chloe Harrington tapped to Wetzstein for the game-winner in SF State's 1-0 double overtime win over the visiting Cal State East Bay Pioneers in the 100
th minute. This was Wetzstein's first goal while
Allison Land recorded five saves en route to the Gators' sixth shutout of the season.
"We hung in there the whole match and finally came good on our third goal chance," said SF State head coach

Sarah Guensler served a great ball into the box with a touch from Chloe (Harrington) that Kelsey (Wetzstein) put in the goal for the game-winner."
With the win, the Gators have won three of their last four matches to improve to 5-5-3 overall and 4-5-2 in the CCAA. SF State also has recorded four straight shutouts. All three of those wins, Wetzstein has played a major role in as the other two wins she assisted on the game-winning goals off of corner kicks.
SF State held an 18-10 advantage in shot attempts, but the Pioneers held a slim 6-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Cal State East Bay (3-8-2, 3-6-2) also held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
The Gators also avenged an early season 3-0 loss the Pioneers in Hayward, Calif.
The first half just saw five combined shot on goal attempts including one with 11 seconds left in the half.
Brittany Oldham's attempt to give the Gators a 1-0 lead was stopped by Donna Williams, one of her five saves on the day.
In the second half,
Allison Land came up big for the Gators as did their defense. Land had three of her five saves on the day including two back to back in the 57
th minute as she stopped an attempt by Sara Silva and Andrea Hernandez.
SF State had its only shot on goal attempt in the 55
th minute as Williams denied
Autumn Fox's attempt to give the Gators a 1-0 lead.
Hernandez had another attempt to be the hero for the visitors sail high on her with 8 seconds left in regulation to send the match into the sudden death periods.
In the first overtime, the Gators had a great chance for the win as
Lauren Hayano's attempt sailed wide right in the 96
th minute to send the match into the second overtime.e
That is when the Gators' Wetzstein scored the golden goal in the 100:19 mark of the match.
SF State will host #10 Cal State Stanislaus this Sunday, October 20 at 2pm in another CCAA match at Cox Stadium. The Gators lost 2-0 at Cal State Stanislaus on Sept. 27 in Turlock. The Warriors defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 2-0 earlier this afternoon in Seaside.
