SAN FRANCISCO--- Katelyn Nebesnick scored off a deflection from Karenee Demery for the golden goal to give the visiting 10
th ranked Cal State Stanislaus Warriors a 1-0 overtime victory over the SF State Gators. With the win, the Warriors improve to 12-0-2 overall and 10-0-2 in the CCAA
"They gave their all today and I am very proud of how the team played this afternoon," said SF State head coach
Jack Hyde. "It was just unfortunate that we did not get the outcome we wanted today."
Cal State Stanislaus outshot the Gators 19-4 including 10-1 in shot on goal attempts. The visitors also held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Chelsea Lewandowski had one save en route to the shutout victory for the Warriors.
The Gators' Allison recorded nine saves in goal for SF State, who falls to 4-6-3 overall and 4-6-2 in the CCAA.
It looked like the Warriors were going to take an early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute, but Land recorded one of his saves by denying Karenee Demery's attempt.
Cal State Stanislaus had four shot on goal attempts in the half including one in the final seconds of the half off the foot of Allie Dugan but Land denied that attempt also to send the match scoreless going into the half.
SF State had a chance to take the lead in the 58
th minute, but Lewandowski stopped
Stephanie Vanni's free kick from crossing into the goal.
The Warriors had two chances in the 86
th minute to take the lead, but Kirsten Coleman's shot hit the post and the Gator defense stopped Lauren Thornton's attempt to be the hero.
At the 88:19 mark, the Gators'
Nicole Smith's shot attempt sailed wide right as the match went into the first sudden death period scoreless.
In the first minute of the overtime, Katelyn Nebesnick scored the golden goal off a ball from Karenee Demery to give the Warriors a 1-0 overtime win.
SF State will be back on the road next week for the final time this coming week for a pair of CCAA matches. The Gators will face the UC San Diego Tritons this Friday, October 25 in La Jolla, Calif., at 4:30pm. Then a week from today, SF State will travel to Pomona, Calif., for a 2pm starting match with Cal Poly Pomona.
