Palomino's Goal Keeps Gators' Hopes Alive for Post-Season

SAN FRANCISCO – For their second straight match, it was the SF State's Alex Palomino scoring the game-winning goal to give the Gators the 1-0 win in the 87th minute. Palomino connected on the game-winner from 8 yards out off a ball from Chloe Harrington. With the win, the Gators keep their hunt for the fourth and final spot in next week's CCAA Soccer Championships.

"We used a lot of players to keep the rotation going and pressure on Cal State Monterey Bay," said SF State head coach Jack Hyde. "In the second half, we the tweaked the system and Alex Palomino ended up being the hero for the second consecutive match."

For the match, SF State outshot the Otters 11-9 including 5-2 in shot on goal attempts. Each team recorded three corner kicks.

The match was evenly played in the first with each team recording two shot on goal attempts. SF State's came in the 14th minute when Lily Garza stopped Mariela Holguin's attempt. The Otters had their attempt in the 39th minute, when Allison Land stopped Kristen Womack's attempt in the 39th minute to send match into the half scoreless.

In the second half, the Gators had two chances in the 73rd minute to take the lead but Garza stopped Chloe Harrington and Sarah Guensler's attempts to give the hosts the lead.

Then with a little over three minutes to go in regulation, Alex Palomino connected on the game-winner off a ball from Harrington. Palomino's second goal of the season went over the goalkeeper's head as SF State held on for the 1-0 win.

Land posted two saves en route to her 8th shutout of the season.

SF State (7-6-4, 6-6-3 CCAA) will host Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday at 2pm in its regular season home finale. The Coyotes defeated Chico State 1-0 this afternoon in San Bernardino to clinch the CCAA South Division.

Prior to the match on Sunday, the Gators will recognize their seniors in Lauren Floro, Chloe Harrington, Mari Mendizabal and Nicole Smith.
