SAN FRANCISCO --- Humboldt State's Lizzie Mitchell connected on a free kick off of the foot of Colette Behen on what proved to be the game-winner in the 75
th minute to give the visitors the 1-0 win over the SF State Gators.
"It was a hard fought physical match," said SF State head coach
Jack Hyde. "We cannot win a game if we cannot score."
SF State (1-2-1, 0-2 CCAA) outshot the Lumberjacks 15-13 and also held a 6-5 shot on goal advantage. The Gators also controlled the corner kicks, 5-3.
The first half saw each team recorded for shot attempts. The Gators'
Autumn Fox had two chances to give the hosts the early lead in the first five minutes. The first hit the post and the second was stopped by Amber Woolcock.
Then with 15 minutes left in the half,
Alex Palomino had her chance to give SF State a 1-0 lead stopped by Woolcock.
The Gators had another chance in the final minutes of the half sail high off the foot of
Elizet Ceja to send the match into the half scoreless.
Ceja had another chance to take the lead stopped by Woolcock in the 53
rd minutes.
The score remained scoreless until the 75
th minute when Mitchell connected from six yards out for her second goal of the season to give Humboldt State (3-1, 1-1 CCAA) the 1-0 lead.
In the 83
rd minute, Woolcock recorded another of her match-high six saves as she stopped another attempt by Ceje has Humboldt State held on for the 1-0 win.
SF State will continue its home stand, this Friday, September 20 at 3pm, when the Gators host Cal State L.A. at Cox Stadium.
