SF State and CSUDH Play to A Scoreless Tie

Allison Land Had 6 Saves This Afternoon in the Gators' 0-0 Match with CSUDH
Box Score SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State Gators and the visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros played to a scoreless draw this afternoon at Cox Stadium on the campus of SF State. Allison Land recorded six saves en route to her second shutout in goal for the Gators (2-2-2, 1-2-1 CCAA).

"It was a hard fought match," said SF State head coach Jack Hyde. "Our defenders held together really well this afternoon led by the trio of Nicole Smith, Stephanie Vanni and Allison Land."

The match was evenly played as each team recorded six shot on goal attempts and seven corner kicks.

Cal State Dominguez Hills (3-2-1, 2-1-1 CCAA) held a slight 18-15 advantage in shot attempts.

SF State had three attempts to take the early lead in the first stopped by the Toros' Jennifer Ackerly including the final one off the foot of Kelsey Wetzstein in the 8th minute.

The Toros' first shot on goal attempt came in the 33rd minute off the foot of Kristen Osuna which Land stopped to keep the match scoreless.

Land came up big in the final minutes of the half as she stopped two attempts by Gabrielle Pena to give the visitors the lead.

In the second half saw just three shot on goal attempts including one by the Toros' Jayma Martin which was stopped by Land in the 71st minute.

Vanni had a chance to be the hero again for the Gators, but her attempt to give the hosts the 1-0 lead was kept out of the net in the 88th minute by the Toros' Ackerly to send the match into overtime.

The first overtime, Katelyn Fregosi had the only shot on goal attempt of the 10-minute period stopped by Land in the 99th minute.

Then in the second overtime period, Land stopped Caitlin Peterson's attempt for the golden goal in the 101st minute. With less than 40 seconds left, Wetzstein had the chance to be the hero for SF State but Ackerly recorded one her six saves to preserve the 0-0 tie.

SF State will be back on the road for a three-game road trip beginning with this Friday, Sept. 27 in Turlock, Calif., for a 4:30pm starting match with #11 Cal State Stanislaus.
