@SFState_WBB Falls Short To Host Broncos In Exhibition Finale

Santa Clara – A first half mired with long scoring streaks by host Santa Clara put the SF State women's basketball team in a hole they could not climb out of on Sunday night.  The Gators fell behind the Broncos 25-4 with 9:41 in the first and would eventually fall to Santa Clara by a final score of 87-41 in the exhibition finale.

The Broncos (2-1) raced out to a 14-0 run before Jen Garcia got the Gators on the board with 14:27 in the first half.  SF State shot just 18.2 from the floor going 4-for-22 to begin the game.  Leading the Gators for the evening was Brittaney Allison , who scored 12 points on 3-for-17 shooting but was perfect 6-for-6  from the charity stripe.

The Gators also received nine points from Jasmine Flanagan and Savannah Camp.  The Broncos were led by Sidney Rielly, who scored a game-high 25 points on 10-for-18 shooting.

After finishing the first half trailing 47-8 the Gators played much better in the second half.  SF State shot 35.7 from the floor, going 10-for-28.  Allison led the way scoring 10 of her 12 points after the intermission.

On the glass the Gators tallied 25 total rebounds, but the Broncos held the advantage there as well recording 46, including 18 offensive boards.  Santa Clara shot 53.8 percent on the night going 35-for-65.

Defensively, the Gators once again did a nice job creating turnovers.  SF State recorded 10 steals on the night and forced 23 Santa Clara turnovers.  The Gators turned those 23 turnovers into 14 points.

With the loss the Gators finished the exhibition season 1-2.  They will begin the regular season on Thursday, November 20 at 5:00 P.M. when SF State hosts Minnesota State-Moorhead at the SF State Gymnasium at the Don Nasser Family Plaza.
