Career Night By Camp Not Enough For @SFState_WBB

SAN FRANCISCO – Freshman forward Savannah Camp had breakout night playing in front of the home crowd, finishing with a double-double scoring 22 points and grabbing 12 boards.  However, it would not be enough as the Gators fell to Humboldt State 73-57 in their CCAA debut Friday night at the SF State Gymnasium.

A big second half push by the Lumberjacks (5-1/1-0 CCAA) was the difference as the Gators (0-5/0-1 CCAA) were outscored 44-29 after the intermission.

SF State had two players in double figures led by Camp and her first career double-double.  The 22 points and 12 rebounds were both game-highs.  Camp showed her versatility going 3-for-8 from deep.  She finished the night shooting 8-for-19 and was 3-for-4 at the free throw line.

Michelle Sutton also had solid evening for the Gators, she finished with 13 points, eight of which came after the intermission.

Overall the Gators played one of their best games.  On the glass the Gators were just two rebounds shy of the Jack's total.  SF State grabbed a season-high 43 rebounds even though they were giving away a lot of height to Humboldt State.

With 4:53 in the first the Gators made a big run to get back into the game.  Trailing by 11, 26-15, SF State closed out the first half going on a 13-3 run.  With five seconds before the intermission Sutton hit a jumper and was fouled for the potential three point play that would have tied the game at 29 heading into the break.

Out of the intermission Humboldt State slowly increased their lead over the course of the final period.  With 3:56 in the game the Lumberjacks hit a pair of free throws to go up 19, 70-51.  But the game had already been effectively decided at the 6:53 mark when Humboldt State went on an 8-0 run to go up 15, 66-51.

The Lumberjacks height advantage really paid off offensively.  The Jacks scored 32 points in the paint on the evening and had 14 second chance points.

The Gators return to action tomorrow night when they host Cal State San Bernardino at 5:30 p.m. at the SF State Gymnasium at the Don Nasser Family Plaza.
