@SFState_WSOC Head Into CCAA Season With 5-1 Record Including 5-0 Against D2 Opponents

Gators Improve to 5-1
Box Score SAN FRANCISCO --- The SF State Gators finished their non-conference season with a 5-1 record including going a perfect 5-0 in matches against NCAA Division II opponents as they defeated the visiting Hawaii Pacific Sharks 2-1 this afternoon at Cox Stadium.
 
The Gators took an early 1-0 lead in the third minute as Elizet Ceja connected on her first of two goals on the afternoon off a cross from Brittany Oldham from 20 yards out. 
 
SF State had a chance to double its lead in the 37th minute, but Autumn Fox's shot sailed wide right.
 
The Sharks (3-1-1) looked as they had tie the match in the 39th minute, but Allison Land recorded one of her four saves on the afternoon stopping Ashlyn Ubongen's shot on goal attempt to send the match into the half with the Gators leading 1-0.
 
Ceja gave the Gators a 2-0 nine minutes into the second half when she connected on a ball from Kelsey Wetzstein and Autumn Fox.  This was her third goal of the season to tie her with Fox for the team lead.
 
Hawaii Pacific cut the Gator lead in half in the 62nd minute as Sara Romo connected on a ball from Stefanie Catone. 
 
Third minutes later it looked as the Sharks had tied the match, but Land stopped Erika Ellis' shot from going into the net.
 
The Gators outshot their opponents 13-11, but Hawaii Pacific held a 4-0 shot on goal advantage. 
 
SF State did take more corner kicks than its opponents, 4-1.
 
The Gators will begin its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) season this Friday, September 26 as they host No. 3 Cal State Stanislaus at 3pm at Cox Stadium.
