SAN FRANCISCO-- The SF State Gator women's soccer team will finish off their regular season this Saturday, October 31 with a 2pm starting conference match at Chico State. The Gators are coming off a 2-0 weekend in their final two home matches of the regular season as they improved to 8-6-3 overall and 4-4-3 in the CCAA.
The Gators are still alive for a berth in the CCAA Soccer Championships which begin on Tuesday, November 3. SF State will need to defeat Chico State on Saturday and get some help. The Gators are one point of sixth place which is currently held by Cal Poly Pomona. Stanislaus State is tied with SF State for seventh place heading into the final weekend of the regular season.
The First Round of the CCAA Soccer Championship starts on Tuesday, November 3 at the sites of the higher seeds (No. 3 vs. No. 6 and No. 4 vs. No. 5). The semi-finals and finals are set for November 6 and 8 in Pomona, Calif., on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona. Sonoma State and UC San Diego already have clinched first round byes. Cal State L.A., Chico State, Humboldt State and Cal Poly Pomona currently hold the third through sixth spots.
SF State opened up its weekend this past Friday with a 1-0 win over Cal State San Bernardino.
Vanessa Penuna connected on a ball from
Molly Schuster in the 76
th minute for what proved to be the game-winner.
Karin Nordin had three saves en route to her third shutout of the season.
Then on Sunday, the Gators defeated Cal Poly Pomona 3-2 on SF State's Senior Day.
Laura Shea,
Paige Yeider and
Taylor Halstenson all scored goals for the Gators with
Autumn Fox recording two assists and
Kaylyn Toyama,
Isabella Nazario and
Molly Schuster each with one apiece.
For the season, the Gators are averaging 1.07 goals a game while giving up 1.46 goals a game. Nordin has posted a 1.10 goals against average with 54 saves and three shutouts.
Arianna Wesley has a 0.77 goals against average in four matches with five saves. Fox leads the team with her 10 points and is tied for the team lead with
Danielle Vidal each with four assists. The junior forward is also tied with Nazario,
Kayleen Belda and
Kimber Lohman each with a team high three goals.
The Gators' only match of the week will be at Chico State this Saturday, October 31 at 2pm. Going into their match this Thursday at home against Cal State Monterey Bay, the Wildcats are 10-4-2 overall and 6-3-1 in the CCAA which places them tied for third place with Cal State L.A. in the conference standings.
The Wildcats are averaging 1.14 goals a game while giving up 1.56 goals a game. They are coming off a 1-1 weekend at home as they lost 4-0 to UC San Diego and defeated Cal State San Bernardino 1-0. Pooja Patel leads the way for Chico State with her 7 goals, 8 assists and 22 points. Mackenzie Boulton has posted a 1.15 goals against average with 65 saves and 7 shutouts in 15 matches. Caitlyn Duval has a 0.95 goals against average with 9 saves and one shutout in two matches.
