SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State women's softball team hosted Academy of Art for a two-game non-conference inner-city showdown on Monday. The Gators had timely hitting and tremendous pitching unfortunately that did not help as the Gators fell 2-0 in game one before falling 8-7 in the nightcap.
Game one starter
Megan Clark (4-13) was the hard luck loser in the series opener for SF State (10-30). Clark threw beautifully throwing six shutout innings before surrendering two runs in the top of the seventh. The lefty did not allow a hit until the top of the third inning.
She was cruising early, needing just 75 pitches to get through six innings. In the end Academy of Art (20-24) broke the tie in the top of the seventh when the leadoff hitter drew a walk, moved to second on a fielder's choice and scored on an infield single. The Urban Knights added an insurance run on a sacrifice bunt later that inning. In the end two runs scored on just one hit.
For the game, Clark threw seven complete, scattering three hits, two runs with a walk and a strike out. As good as Clark was Academy of Art's starter Brenna Mitchell (15-11) was just a little better, holding the Gators to just five hits with a strike out.
