@SFState_WSOC Returns Home to Host #8 UCSD and Cal State San Marcos

SAN FRANCISCO— After being on the road for five straight matches, the San Francisco State Gators will return home to host No. 8 UC San Diego and Cal State San Marcos.  The Gators will face the nationally ranked Tritons this Fri., Oct. 7 at 12:30pm and the Cougars on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 11:30am at Cox Stadium.

The Gators are coming off a tough stretch of matches as they went 1-2-2 in their five-match road trip.  This past weekend, San Francisco State lost two 1-0 nail biters at Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A. respectively.  The Toros defeated the Gators on a golden goal with 35 seconds left in the second overtime this past Friday.  Then this past Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles, Cal State L.A. defeated the Gators on a penalty kick with 14 minutes left in regulation. Christina Holguin recorded 7 combined saves in the Gators. 

For the season, San Francisco State is 5-3-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the CCAA which places them in 7th place in the CCAA with 8 points.  The top six teams at the end of the regular season will receive a berth in the CCAA Soccer Championships.  The number one and two seeds will receive a First Round bye which starts on November 1.  The First Round matches will be played at the number three and four seed's home sites.  The semi-final and final round will take place November 4-6 at Warrior Soccer Field on the campus Stanislaus State in Turlock. 

Coming into this weekend, the Gators have scored 12 goals and recorded 13 assists.  They have given up just 8 goals in the first 11 matches.  Sierra Sagasta leads the way with her four goals and 8 points.  She is tied with Natasha Gosiaco with two game-winning goals.  Autumn Fox leads the team with her 5 assists.  Christina Holguini has posted a 0.41 goals against average with 31 saves and 5 shutouts in goal for the Gators. 

The Gators will first entertain the nationally ranked UC San Diego Tritons, who are 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the CCAA after defeating No. 19 Sonoma State 2-0 and Humboldt State 4-0 this past weekend in La Jolla. The Tritons are currently tied for second in the CCAA with 12 points with Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A.  UC San Diego has scored 29 goals and 32 assists in its first 10 matches. 

Katie O'Laughlin has scored a team leading 9 goals with 3 assists to go along with her team high 21 points.  Jordyn McNutt has recorded a team leading 7 assists.  Itzel Gonzalez has posted a 0.60 goals against average with 22 saves and 6 shutouts in goal for the Tritons.

Then on Sunday morning at 11:30am, San Francisco State will entertain Cal State San Marcos.  Coming into their match at Cal State Monterey Bay this Friday, the Cougars are 3-2-4 overall and 1-2-1 in the CCAA.  They are tied with Humboldt State for 8 points with four points in the CCAA.

Cal State San Marcos went 0-1-1 this past weekend at home, tying Humboldt State 1-1 and losing 1-0 to No. 19 Sonoma State.  The Cougars have scored 8 goals and recorded 7 assists with Meghan Randig leading the way with two goals.  She is tied with Megan Pfrunder for the team lead with 6 points.  Pfrunder has a team high three assists.  Erica Dory has posted a 0.91 goals against average with 29 saves and three shutouts. 

After this weekend, the Gators will have their final road trip of the season as they travel to Humboldt State and Sonoma State on October 14 and 16.  After their match at Sonoma State, San Francisco State will be off until October 24 when the Gators have a non-conference match at UC Santa Cruz on October 24.  They will round out their regular season on October 27 and 29 hosting Cal State East Bay and Stanislaus State.
