@SFState_WBB Takes Down Coyotes In Season Finale

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The SF State women's basketball team erupted for 27 points in the fourth quarter to take down host Cal State San Bernardino Saturday night at the Coussoulis Arena.  The Gators offense had four players score in double figures, while Kiara Ginwright set the conference record for blocks in a single season.

Trailing 27-21 at the intermission, the SF State (10-17/7-13 CCAA) roared back in the second half, outscoring the Coyotes (13-12/10-10 CCAA) 43-32 after the intermission.  The Gators finished the night shooting 40.4 percent from the field, going 23-for-57.  From 3-point range the Gators shot 36.4 percent from beyond the arc, going 8-for-22.

Four players finished in double figures and was led by senior guard Tatsiana Dashkevich's game-high 22.  Playing in her final game for the Gators she went off, scoring 16 points after the intermission.  She also grabbed seven rebounds, dished out five assists and tallied three steals.

Felicia Villarruel scored 16 while Lauryn Catching and Kiara Ginwright each added 10 points.  Ginwright also finished with nine blocks and six rebounds in a monster performance to cap off her freshman campaign.  The nine blocks gives Ginwright 120 for the season, setting the new CCAA single season record.

The Coyotes jumped out to an early lead thanks to a 14-9 first quarter.  In that opening period the Coyotes scored 10 of their 14 points in the paint.  In the second quarter the Gators flipped the script on the Coyotes, scoring 10 of their points in the paint while holding the Coyotes to just two points inside the key. 

After the intermission the Gators offense was red-hot from 3-point range.  After going 1-for-10 from beyond the arc, the SF State was 7-for-12 from three point range.  Dashkevich alone was 4-for-6, while Villarruel went 2-for-5.

Defensively, the Gators held the Coyotes to 29.7 percent shooting after the break, going 11-for-37.  Ginwright recorded six of her nine blocks in the second half to help the Gators defense inside the key.
