SAN FRANCISCO – Playing in front of a capacity crowd on senior day, the SF State softball team gave everything it had against the No. 3 ranked Lumberjacks. The Gators rallied in both game one and game two, unfortunately for the home crowd, in both games the Gators rally came up short, losing the opener 5-3 and the nightcap 4-3.
In the opener No. 3 Humboldt State (43-3-1/22-2 CCAA) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring a run in the first and a run in the third against SF State starter
Jenny Obbema (5-7). The Jacks scored their first run of the game on a series of singles, two coming with two outs that plated the first run of the morning.
J. Obbema settled into a nice groove, she put zeroes on the board in the second, fourth and fifth inning and allowed the Gators offense to get back into the game. Facing Katie Obbema (20-2), the Gators scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Back-to-back-to-back two-out hits all falling into left center field plated the Gators three runs.
Angelica Terrel started the rally with a leadoff double to dead center field. Pinch runner
Madison Collins advanced to third on a passed ball and came around to score on the two-out double to left center by
Alexis Mattos.
Jennifer Lewis traded places with Mattos, crushing a single to deep left center, she moved up 60 feet on the throw.
Aryn Guzman plated the Gators third run when she knocked in Lewis on a double to left center field.
K. Obbema settled down and kept the Gators off the board in the sixth and seventh inning to hold on for the win. The Jacks' Obbema went 7.0 complete, surrendering eight hits, three runs, all earned, with seven strike outs.
HSU tied the game in the sixth inning on J. Obbema and took the lead in the seventh on a two-run home run to left field by Lumberjack's third baseman Julie Pena. J. Obbema threw seven complete, surrendering 10 hits, five runs, four earned with three walks and five strike outs.
In the nightcap the Gators sent
Megan Clark (11-10) to the circle. After a four run top of the first inning, Clark absolutely shut down the potent Lumberjacks lineup. But a one out double by Tiffany Hollingsworth and a bases clearing, three-run double, by Illa Haley would be enough for the Jacks.
Offensively, the Gators collected eight hits against game two starter Madison Williams (21-1) but it wasn't until the fifth and sixth inning that the Gators were able to get on the board.

Mattos started the run scoring for SF State, she led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a triple to right field. She eventually scored on the sacrifice fly to center field by Guzman. In the sixth inning the Gators cut the deficit to one when
Kayli Shaw scored an unearned run on the walk issued to
Mallory Cleveland on a great at bat.
Gabby Reta scored the other run from third on the hard hit ground ball back to the pitcher by pinch hitter
Celeste Adriano. The Gators bench provided a huge spark for SF State in the late innings. In the bottom of the seventh the Gators had the tying and winning runs on second and third with less than two outs, but Williams was able to stop half the rally getting a pair of fly balls that weren't deep enough to score the runner.
