SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.--- The SF State Gators split their CCAA road doubleheader with Cal State San Bernardino this afternoon winning the opener 10-4 and losing the night cap 10-9. The Gators now have six of their last eight games and improved to 14-13 overall and 8-9 in the CCAA.

Peter Reyes and his tremendous effort being wasted by our bullpen today. We swung bats very well and executed on offense well. Right now we are searching for somebody to take the reins in the bullpen."
The Gators won game one 10-4 behind
Chris Nicholson's 3-for-4, two home run game. Nicholson was one of four Gators to have a multiple-hit game. The junior utility player also drove in two runs and scored four of SF State's 10 hits.
SF State took a 1-0 lead in top of the first inning when
Myles Franklin had a two-out single advanced to third on back to back stolen bases. He then scored the Gators' first run when he stole third and advanced on an errant throw.
Cal State San Bernardino tied the game in bottom of the first inning as Andrew Lopez reached on a two-out single and scored two batters later on a wild pitch.
SF State took a 4-1 lead with a three-run third inning with
Bryce Brooks' two-out single driving in
Nick Jackson to cap the inning for the visitors. Nicholson increased the Gator lead to 5-1 with a lead-off home run in the top of the fourth inning.
The Gators added two more runs one in each of the seventh and eighth inning to take a 7-1 lead. Cal State San Bernardino scored its second run of the game in the 8
th as the guests had a 7-2 lead heading into the ninth.
In the Gator ninth, Nicholson's two-run home run capped a three inning as SF State increased its lead to 10-2. The Coyotes scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to make the final Gators, 10-4.
Besides Nicholson's three-hit day, Brooks, Franklin and
Connor Fraser each had two hits for the victors.
Matthew Hernandez (2-4) recorded the win in the start for the Gators, going 5 innings pitched, 5 hits, one run, one walk and striking out one.
The Gators also sent three other pitchers to the mound including
Brent Montgomery, who pitched 2.2 innings, giving up one hit and one unearned run while walking one.
Tyler Wells (2-3) picked up the loss for the Coyotes, pitching 5 innings, giving up 6 hits, five runs (two earned) striking out four and walking two.
In night cap, Franklin scored the Gators' first run for the second straight game. He reached on a two-out double in the top of the first, stole third and scored on an errant throw. Franklin doubled the guests' lead to 2-0 on a solo home run to lead off the Gator fourth. SF State took a 3-0 lead on Nicholson's third home run of the game in the Gator fifth.
The Coyotes cut the Gator lead to 3-2 with a two-run fifth inning. SF State came right back and scored five runs in its half of the sixth to increase the lead to 8-2. Franklin had a lead-off double.
Joe Chedid walked and
Ryan Burke had a bunt single to load the bases.
Franklin scored when
Logan Marston walked with no outs. Fraser then drove home Chedid with a single to left field. SF State added two more runs on
Chad Thurston's single. The Gators increased their lead to 8-2 on a sacrifice fly by Nicholson which brought in Fraser. The visitors added another run in the top of the seventh on Burke's sacrifice fly to right field which brought in Franklin who reached on a lead-off single as the Gators took a 9-2 lead.
The Coyotes cut the Gator lead to 9-3 with a run in the seventh inning. They then made it a game with a three run sixth inning capped by a Lopez two-out single to make it 9-6 guests.
Cal State San Bernardino (15-16, 10-9 CCAA) won the night cap with a four-run ninth. Brian Lockey's two-run single cut the Gator lead to 9-8. Then Jordan Simon hit the third pitch he saw for a two-run double for the 10-9 walk-off victory.
Franklin finished the nightcap 4-for-5 scoring four times while Fraser was 3-for-4. Montgomery fell to 4-1 as he picked up the loss in relief.
Peter Reyes recorded the no-decision in the start for SF State, pitching 7 innings, giving up 8 hits and three runs while striking out a career high 6.
Noah Simon (2-0) recorded the win in relief for the hosts, pitching four innings, giving up two hits, one run and striking out one. Ryan Rich and Jordan Simon each went 3-for-5 with two RBIS.
The two teams will conclude the three-game series tomorrow morning with an 11am nine-inning game at San Bernardino's Fiscalini Field.
