SAN FRANCISCO--- The SF State Gators sent their five seniors out with a 5-2 regular season home finale victory this afternoon on Senior Day at SF State's Maloney Field. SF State finished its season with a 23-25 overall record, the most wins since 2004 when the Gators won 30 games.

Peter Reyes (3-3) picked up his second consecutive win in his last game as a Gator. The fifth-year senior pitched 6.2 innings of three-hit ball, giving up two runs, striking out 5 and walking one. Senior reliever
Shane Martin, also pitching in his final game in the purple and gold, pitched one scoreless inning of relief. Junior transfer
Brent Montgomery recorded his team leading fourth save of the season, by pitching 1.1 scoreless innings and striking out one.
SF State (23-25, 15-21 CCAA) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Senior first baseman/designated hitter
Ryan Burke had a lead-off single, went to third on a double by
Dalton Pizzuti.
Chris Nicholson loaded the bases as he was hit by a pitch. Still with no outs, senior utility player,
Joe Chedid hit a two-run single down the left field line to bring in Burke and Pizzuti with the game's first runs.
The Gators added three more runs in their half of their third inning. Senior third baseman,
Connor Fraser, walked with one out. He went to third on a double by
Myles Franklin. Fraser scored on a single by Burke. Pizzuti walked to load the bases. Still with one out, Nicholson singled home Franklin and then Burke scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by Chedid as the Gators took a 5-0 lead.
Sonoma State (21-27, 19-18 CCAA) cut the Gator lead to 5-2 with a two-run fourth inning. Matthew Richards hit a two-out home run over the left field fence and Tyler Glenn followed that with a solo shot over the right field fence as the Seawolves cut the deficit to 5-2. Reyes struck out the next batter to end the inning for Sonoma State. The Seawolves had another scoring threat in the top of the sixth inning. Daniel Caresio had a lead-off single, went to second when Ryan O'Malley walked with one out. Reyes retired the next Seawolf on a fly out to
Nick Jackson in center field. Then he struck out the last batter to preserve the 5-2 Gator lead.
The trio of Reyes, Martin and Montgomery pitched the final three scoreless innings as they did not let a Seawolf on base as the Gators took the 5-2 regular season home finale victory.
Wade Berryhill (1-1) recorded the loss in the start for the visitors, pitching 2.1 innings, giving up five hits and five runs, striking out two and walking two. Three different Seawolves had one hit apiece in Caresio, Richards and Glenn.
The Gators had 11 hits on the day with five hitters with two hits apiece in Franklin, Burke, Pizzuti, Nicholson and Chedid. Burke scored two of the Gators' five runs while Chedid drove in three of their runs.
Prior to the game, the Gators recognized their five seniors (
Ryan Burke,
Joe Chedid,
Connor Fraser,
Shane Martin and
Peter Reyes) with a ceremony. They also wished all the mother's in attendance a Happy Mother's Day.
