Natasha Gosiaco and Her Gator Teammates Will Entertain CSUMB and Chico State This Week

SAN FRANCISCO– After starting the season 2-1-1, the San Francisco State Gators will open up California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play this week with a pair of home matches this Wednesday and Friday, September 14 and 16.  The Gators will face Cal State Monterey Bay this Wednesday and Chico State this Friday.  Game times for both matches are set for 3pm at Cox Stadium.

San Francisco State improved to 2-1-1 by going 2-0 this past weekend in its two matches in Montana.  The Gators opened up the weekend with a 2-0 victory over the host, Montana State-Billings on Thursday.    Sierra Sagasta connected on her third goal of the season for the Gators' first goal in the 17th minute off a pass from Jada Williams. Nine minutes later, Williams connected off a missed shot from Taylor Halstenson to give the Gators a 2-0 lead.  In her first start of the season in goal, Christina Holguin recorded two saves en route to her first shutout in a Gator uniform.

The Gators recorded their second straight 2-0 shutout on Saturday afternoon, this time against the Western State Colorado Mountaineers.  Natasha Gosiaco put the Gator son the board first in the 29th minute off a missed shot by Autumn Fox.  With just three minutes left in the half, Kimber Lohman increase the Gators' lead to 2-0 on a cross by Sydney Stout. Holguin had one save in goal for her second shutout of the season.

San Francisco State, under the guidance of second-year head coach Tracy Hamm, is averaging 1.75 goals a game while giving up 1.00 goals a game in its first four matches of the season.  Sagasta leads the way with her three goals for 8 points.  Fox has a team leading three assists.  She is tied with Jada Williams for second with her three points.  Williams has one goal and one assist.  Three other Gators have scored goals this season in Sarah Guensler, Gosiaco and Lohman.  Four other players have recorded assists this season in Laura Shea, Bianca Lowe, Stout and Halstenson.

Ariana Wesley and Christina Holguin have each started in goal in two matches. Wesley has a 1.80 goals against average with 8 saves and a .667 saves percentage. Holguin has recorded a 0.00 goals against average with three saves and a 1.000 saves percentage. 

In the recent CCAA statistics report that was released this morning, three Gators are in the top 10 in four categories.  Sagasta is tied for second with her three goals and tied for third with her 6 points.  Fox is tied for first with three assists while is she is 12th in the nation.  Holguin is tied for fifth with her two shutouts. 

The Gators will opener CCAA play this Wednesday at 3pm, when the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters come to Cox Stadium.  The Otters opened up their season 2-1 as they defeated Notre Dame de Namur 2-1, Cal Baptist 1-0 and lost at Azusa Pacific 4-0.  Hannah Kind leads the way for Cal State Monterey Bay with her two goals (one assist) and five points.  Ashlee Cortez also has scored for the Otters.  Victoria Whyte and Alyssa Noh each have seen time in goal for Cal State Monterey Bay.  Noh has posted a 0.77 goals against average with three saves while Whyte has a 2.37 goals against average with two saves.

San Francisco State will then entertain Chico State on Friday afternoon.  The Wildcats, who are currently ranked 24th in the nation, are 4-0-1 after recording four straight shutouts including playing to a scoreless tie with No. 12 Azusa Pacific.  Chico State is averaging 2.00 goals a game while giving up 0.20 goals a game in its first five matches of the season.  Shelby Lanksbury and Korie Bozart each lead the Wildcats with their two goals, one assist and five points.  Caitlyn Duval has posted a 0.18 goals against average in goal for the Wildcats with four shutouts and 10 saves.

After Friday's conference match, the Gators will travel to Oakland's Merritt College for a 1pm non-conference match with Holy Names University.  The Hawks are 0-1-1 after losing 2-0 at No. 24 Chico State this past Friday and playing to a scoreless tie with George Fox on Sunday.  Vanessa Amaral and Alyssa Lopez have each seen time in goal for the Hawks as they have combined for 9 saves.

San Francisco State will then continue its stretch of being on the road as the Gators will travel to Southern California for a pair of CCAA matches at Cal Poly Pomona (Sept. 23) and at Cal State San Bernardino (Sept. 25).
