SAN FRANCISCO-- The San Francisco State women's soccer team will return to the pitch this Thursday and Saturday, September 8 and 10 when the Gators travel to Billings, Mont., for two non-conference matches. The Gators will face Montana State-Billings on Thursday at 5pm MDT and Western State Colorado on Saturday at noon MDT.
San Francisco State is coming off a 0-1-1 weekend at home against Central Washington and Dominican University of California. In their opener last Thursday morning, the Gators lost 2-1 to Central Washington despite holding an early 1-0 lead.
Sarah Guensler connected on the San Francisco State's goal in the 15
th minute off a pass from
Autumn Fox and
Bianca Lowe.
Then on Sunday afternoon, the Gators tied with Dominican University of California 2-2 as
Sierra Sagasta scored both of the Gators' goals. She connected on assists from
Laura Shea and Fox in the 42
nd and 62
nd minute.
Sagasta leads the team with her two goals scored and four points with Guensler right behind her with one goal and two points. Fox is tied with Guensler for second on the team with two points on a team high two assists. Lowe and Shea had the Gators' other two assists. Adrianna Wesley has posted a 1.80 goals against average with 8 saves and a .667 saves percentage.
The Gators' first opponent of the weekend will be the Montana State-Billings Yellowjackets on Thursday at 5pm MDT. The Yellowjackets are 0-2 after dropping both of their matches in Colorado this past weekend. They lost 2-1 to Colorado Christian on Thursday and 1-0 in overtime to Western State Colorado. Dana Lubieniecki has scored the only goal for Montana State-Billings while Lili Delgadillo has posted a 1.47 goals against average with 13 saves and a .812 saves percentage.
San Francisco State will then face the Western State Colorado Mountaineers this Saturday at noon. Western State Colorado is 1-0-1 after its two home matches to open up the season this past weekend. They played to a scoreless tie with Eastern New Mexico on Friday in their regular season home opener. Then on Saturday, the Mountaineers defeated Montana State-Billings 1-0 in overtime when Jessica Kresl connected on the game-winner in the 94
th minute. Kate Simpson-Johnson had 8 saves in goal for Western State Colorado.
The Mountaineers are giving up 0.00 goals a game with Simpson-Johnson in goal for them. She has posted a 1.000 saves percentage with 21 saves and two shutouts. Western State will face Mary University on Thursday at 2pm prior to facing the Gators on Saturday afternoon.
After this weekend, the Gators will open up California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play next week with two home matches. San Francisco State will host Cal State Monterey Bay on Wednesday, September 14 and No. 24 Chico State on Friday, September 16. Both matches will begin at approximately 3pm at Cox Stadium on the campus of San Francisco State.
