BRISBANE, Calif. – The San Francisco State softball team drew a split with host Academy of Art on Wednesday at Mission Blue Field in Brisbane. The Gators got a tremendous pitching performance from
Lindsey Cassidy in the finale, while
Kasie Trezona and
Gabby Reta both had a huge day at the plate.
SF State (1-1) collected 17 hits and scored seven runs over the two contests. In the opener, the Gators got a clutch performance from senior shortstop
Kasie Trezona. Trezona opened the season going 2-for-4 with a run scored and two runs driven in. In the opener, she clubbed a double and in the top of the seventh inning smashed a solo home run that cut the Gators deficit to one.
Game one starter, senior
Megan Clark (0-1) started the game sharp, needing just four pitches to get out of the first inning. She finished the game, going 6.0 complete, surrendering nine hits, four runs, all earned with a strike out.
In the nightcap the game was dominated by Cassidy. After surrendering a run on one hit in the first inning, she went the distance scattering just one more additional hit en-route to a 2-hit gem. She also struck out one.
Reta was the Gators' offensive catalyst in the second game. She went 3-for-4, driving in all four of SF State's runs, while launching a two-run home run and an inning later, a two-run double.
The Gators will return to action on Sunday, weather permitting, when they host Notre Dame de Namur for the 2017 home opener. Game one is scheduled for noon with game two slated for a 2:00 p.m. start.
