SB | Gators on Wrong End Of Impressive Pitching Performances

SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco State softball team came out on the wrong end of two impressive pitching performances on Friday afternoon, as No. 1 Humboldt State defeated the Gators 5-1 and 6-0 to begin a four game CCAA series at the SFSU Softball Field.

The Gators (3-7/2-4 CCAA) were held to 10 hits and one run over the two contests.  In the opener, Humboldt State (7-0/2-0 CCAA) starter Maddie Williams held the Gators scoreless over seven innings, while scattering four hits.

Game one starter for SF State, Megan Clark (1-4) pitched well, going the distance.  The difference in the game was a two-out, three run home run in the bottom of the first inning by the Jack's Illa Haley.

Clark scattered seven hits over seven innings, surrendering five runs, four earned, with four walks and a strike out.  At the plate, Clark was the only Gator with multiple hits in the first game, going 2-for-3.  Aryn Guzman and Angelica Terrel also recorded hits for the Gators.

In the nightcap, the home team Jacks struck again in the bottom of the first scoring two runs before an out was recorded.  Game two starter, Lindsey Cassidy (2-3) settled down, striking out the side to limit the damage to a pair of runs.

In the top of the second, Sara Higa led off the inning with a bunt single, the first of her three hits in the game.

The Gators scored their lone run of the game in the top of the fifth inning.  Delanie Chrisman reached on a fielder's choice and stole second to get into scoring position.  Madison Collins brought her in with a single through the left side.

Cassidy went six innings in the loss, she scattered six hits, six runs, five earned, with five strike outs.

The Gators and Jacks will resume the series tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m.
