WBB | Halftime Lead Not Enough As Gators Fall to Jacks In Season Finale

ARCATA, Calif. – Coming out of the locker room holding a 30-26 halftime lead, the San Francisco State women's basketball team could not overcome a hot third quarter from host Humboldt State, as the Jacks came back to win the game 55-51 in the season finale on Saturday night.

The Gators (4-23/2-18 CCAA) came out of the game on fire, shooting 48.0 percent from the field, going 12-for-25 from the floor.  From 3-point range, the Gators also started out hot, going 6-for-13 from beyond the arc.

Felicia Villarruel helped get the Gators going, scoring five quick points.  Imani Smith also got the ball rolling for the Gators, scoring six of her career-best 19 points in the opening period.  At the half, Villarruel chipped in six more points to go into the locker room with 11 points.

After the intermission, Humboldt State (8-19/7-13) went on a big run in the third quarter, outscoring the Gators 21-13.  In the fourth and final quarter both sides struggled to score, but the Jacks finished with 11 points and held SF State to eight for the 58-51 win.

Smith was the Gators main driving force in the second half, scoring 11 points after the break.  What proved be the difference was again the Gators short bench, which was outscored 15-2, and 20 SF State turnovers that led to 22 points.

Joining Smith and Villarruel in double figures for the Gators on Saturday night was Kaitlin DaDalt who chipped in 10.  Donae Moguel scored six points, while grabbing seven rebounds.  Kayla Watterson scored two points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
