SANTA ROSA, Calif. — The San Francisco State baseball team split a doubleheader with Sonoma State on Sunday at Santa Rosa Junior College. The Gators dropped game one 9-1 and rallied back in game two, winning 5-4 on a walk-off in a seven-inning affair.
The Gators (3-9/1-3 CCAA) salvaged the weekend's CCAA-opening series with the walk-off in game two. Sonoma State (6-1/3-1 CCAA) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Zac Neumann drew a leadoff walk in the fourth and
Jordan Abernathy got the Gators back into the game with a two-run shot in the fourth.
Dalton Pizzuti tied the game in the fifth with a two-out single. Jake Sahagian looked to add to his big day for the Seawolves with a leadoff triple the seventh, then scored the go-ahead run on Nathan Mann's double. In the bottom half of the inning,
Chris Nicholson and
Trevor Greenley began the inning with back-to-back single. A throwing error on Greenley's single allowed Nicholson to score the tying run and Greenley advanced to third on the error.
Jack Harris came into run for Greenley and scored on catcher
Johnny Juarez's single to win it.
Matthew Hernandez went four innings and took a no decision for the Gators.
Brent Montgomery (1-2) allowed one run on two hits in three innings of work and picked up the win. Seawolves reliver Cody Bennett (0-1) took the loss.
In game one, the Seawolves grabbed an early lead with a run in the second inning on a Sahagian solo homer, then added on with a three-run sixth inning. The Gators got a run back in the bottom of the eighth inning but a five-run ninth inning for the Seawolves put the game out of reach. SF State's run in game one came on
Zac Neumann's RBI single, which brought home
TJ Conroy. Conroy started the inning with a double. Ricky Clark (1-0) allowed one hit over six shutout innings and earned the win for the Seawolves.
Andrew Najeeb-Brush (0-2) allowed four runs in five and two thirds innings.
