SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State baseball team won its final game at home on Saturday and earned the series sweep with a 7-1 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The Gators, who have won five straight and eight of their last ten, took the early lead in the second with
Jacob Lopez's bases-clearing triple into the right field. In the seventh, Lopez singled and raced around from first base to score on
Chris Nicholson's double into the left field corner. Nicholson scored from second to make it 5-0 on
Jordan Abernathy's two-out single to left field. Lopez's second tripled of the day plated
Noeh Martinez and
Robbie Carling in the eighth.
The Gators' only four-year player,
Ryan Bohnet, struck out four in his final home start. He scattered three hits in five scoreless innings of work. The performance was particularly impressive given that Bohnet also dealt with nearly 50 minutes of injury delays. Home plate umpire Dan Boutwell left after being hit in the first inning. Bill Shortridge moved from first base to behind the plate was also hit by a pitch. He moved back to the field with his hand taped up. Ron Adams, who started the day at third base, finished the day with home plate duties.
Garrett Ciuk pitched two scoreless innings of work and ended the seventh inning by spearing a line drive and turning an inning-ending double play.
Cole Lang allowed a run in the eighth on a two-out single to right field.
Myles Franklin made a strong throw on the play but Daryl Donerson beat the tag.
Brent Montgomery finished the game out for his third save of the season.
The team's nine seniors — Bohnet,
Bryce Brooks,
TJ Conroy,
Myles Franklin, Lopez, Martinez, Montgomery, Nicholson, and
Mike Phelan — were honored in a pregame Senior Day ceremony.
