LOS ANGELES — The bats came alive for the San Francisco State baseball team on Sunday in a 6-4 victory at Cal State LA.
The Gators (10-25/7-18 CCAA) salvaged the three-game series thanks to 11 hits and three home runs. Freshman
Jack Harris launched the first two home runs of his career, a two-run shot in the third that pulled the Gators to within a run, and a solo shot in the ninth that doubled the lead.
Jacob Lopez's solo homer later in the third tied the game at 3-3. The Golden Eagles (20-14/13-11 CCAA) regained the lead in the bottom of the third. SF State starter
Dillon Houser got a double play ball but it allowed Christian Broussard to score from third.
With Lopez on third base with two outs,
Cole Lang's infield single in the fifth tied the game yet again. Second baseman
Zac Neumann led off the seventh with a single and advanced to second on an error in the outfield. He moved to third on a Lopez sacrifice bunt, then gave the Gators a 5-4 lead on shortstop
Jackson Kritsch's groundout to second base.
Houser struck out three and didn't allow a walk in five and two third innings of work. He worked past a first inning that saw the Gators commit two errors which resulted in three unearned runs and an early deficit. The left-hander allowed just one earned run but left with a no decision.
Matthew Hernandez (1-2) went the rest of the way and picked up the win for SF State. The righty struck out three and allowed one hit over the remaining three and a third innings. Cal State LA reliever Justin Davis (3-2) was charged with the loss.
