POMONA, Calif. —
Chris Nicholson launched a three-run homer on Saturday but it wasn't enough in an 8-4 loss at Cal Poly Pomona.
The CCAA South Division's first-place team took a 4-0 lead in the first. In the fourth inning,
Myles Franklin and
Jordan Abernathy both singled with two outs and Nicholson's home run made it a one-run ballgame. SF State starter
Ryan Bohnet allowed another run in the fifth before handing the ball over to the bullpen. The bullpen was unable to keep the game close and allowed three runs in the sixth inning. In the ninth inning, senior
Noeh Martinez plated the Gators' final run of the season. SF State got the tying run to the on-deck circle but was unable to complete the comeback.
SF State finishes the season at 18-31 and 14-24. The first half of th schedule was impacted by heavy rains and did not see the Gators play a game at Maloney Game for an entire month and a total of 16 games later. The Gators did settle in after the first month and went 15-18 over the next couple of months and won five of their final eight. Along the way,
Andrew Najeeb-Brush and
Matthew Hernandez earned CCAA Pither of the Week honors and Hernandez also earned NCBWA Division II West Region Pitcher of the Week honors on May 3.
