MS | SF State completes successful Oregon road trip

PORTLAND, Ore. — The San Francisco State men's soccer team completed a successful road trip to the Great Northwest on Saturday with a 3-0 victory at Concordia (Ore.).

Ranier Plantinos continued his hot start with the Gators' (2-0) first goal of the day. The senior forward scored on a breakaway in the 30th minute off of the assist from sophomore Richard Leon. Shortly before intermission, junior transfer Carlos leal Trujeque connected with senior Daniel Herrera on a set piece and Herrera finished from five yards out.

Herrera assisted on the Gators' third goal of the day with a cross to Brandt Dixon. The sophomore headed the goal past Cavaliers (1-1) goalkeeper Grant Alcorn in the 50th minute for his first career goal. The SF State defense recorded its first shutout of the season and sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Harmina finished his day with three saves.

SF State held a slight 12-11 shot advantage but was the more efficent team, scoring on three of the team's eight shots on goal. Concordia was limited to three shots on goal.

The Gators host their home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 5 when Dominican visits Cox Stadium for a 1 p.m. contest. The two teams last met in 2015 at Kezar Stadium, where the Gators came away with a 3-0 victory. That win also gave the Gators a 3-0 start, which SF State will look to match again on Tuesday.
