SALEM, Ore. — The San Francisco State women's soccer team notched its first win of the season on Saturday with a 3-0 victory at Western Oregon.
Freshman
Tami Kwong ended a scoreless match in the 42nd minute with her shot from 15 yards out on the the left side to the far post.
The Gators (1-1), who bounced back nicely after a heartbreaking 2-1 double overtime loss on Thursday, made it 2-0 in the 66th minute when
Laura Shea netted her second goal of the season. The senior connected for a header to the near post off of fellow senior
Vanessa Penuna's corner kick from the right side. Senior Sierra Sagastra put the match well out of reach in the 86th minute when she settled a ball and finished from eight yards out.
The SF State defense held WOU (0-2) to six shots, four on goal. Freshman
Nicki Rucki was there to make all four stops en route to both the first win and first shutout of her career. The Gators tallied 14 shots and placed seven on frame.
The Gators host their first home match of the season vs. Northwest Nazarene on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 3 p.m. The Gators host nationally-ranked Bridgeport on Monday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. Both games will have live video and stats available at
