MERCED, Calif. — Karla Ramos' brace led the San Francisco State women's soccer team to a 4-2 non-conference victory over UC Merced on Saturday.
Emily Kaleal got the Golden Gators (10-5-2) on the scoreboard early with a goal in the 11th minute. San Francisco State doubled the lead in the 37th minute when
Monique Ponce connected with
Ana Williams. In the 44th minute,
Marriah Perez found Ramos for the redshirt junior's first goal as a Gator. UC Merced (8-6-2) kept the game close with a goal 18 seconds before the half from Jamee Bullock.
Ramos made it a two-goal day in the 59th minute with an unassisted goal. Emily Burnett scored in the 80th minute to cut the lead to 4-2 but the Gators defense held on. Domenique Banta made six saves and picked up the victory in goal.
The Gators, who earned the No. 4 seed in the CCAA, will host fifth-seed Cal State San Marcos in the first round of the CCAA Championships on Tuesday, October 30. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. Live stats and video will be provided and in-game updates will be available on Twitter at
