LA JOLLA, California - Despite a strong first quarter, the San Francisco State women's basketball team dropped its first road California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) contest on Thursday to No. 12 UC San Diego, 102-78.
- Jhaina Stephens had a season-high 19 points, which ties the most points by a Gator this season, and narrowly missed her third double-double of the year with nine boards. Toni Edwards tied a season best with 13 points and had four rebounds and five assists.Â
- Isabella Lamonea also had 13 points and was 3-of-9 from deep, giving her three-straight games with three-of-more triples. Kaleigh Pugh dropped a season-high eight points, and Amani Alexander had nine.
- UC San Diego (8-0/4-0 CCAA), who ranks second in the CCAA with 75 points-per-game, extends their regular season win streak to 18 dating back to last season. The 102 points scored are the most by the Tritons this year, and their 50 percent (39-78) shooting from the field is a season high.
- The Gators (2-7/1-3 CCAA) shot 42 percent (29-69) from the floor, which is the third-highest mark this year, and their 29 field goals is the second-most this 2018-19 campaign.

Pugh deflected the Triton pass and Taimane Lesa-Hardee stole the ball and knocked down the fast break jumper at the eight-minute mark to tie things up 5-5. Trailing 11-7, Stephens hit a jumper from near the top of the key to cut it to two, but UC San Diego's Joleen Yang made a three that put the Tritons back up by five. Following another host basket, Lamonea made a jumper in the paint that made it a five-point contest once again midway though the frame. Alexander made a triple from the right side that cut it to four, and Danielle Palmer countered a Triton layup with a bucket of her own to make it 20-16. With 1:24 to go, Pugh battled to make a contested layup and made the resulting and-one free throw to narrow the deficit to three. Edwards went coast-to-coast with and finished with the right-handed layup that cut it to one, 22-21 at the end of the quarter and cap off a 5-0 run.

Stephens battled through the lane for a pair that narrowed the deficit to one again following a Triton basket to open up the second. Down 31-26 following a UC San Diego Surge, Lamonea, who ranks fourth in the CCAA with a .395 shooting percentage from deep, drained a three-pointer from the top of the arc off a pass from Taisia Fleming with 6:54 left in the half, but the Tritons got back-to-back triples from Sunday Sharp to widen the lead, 37-29. Lesa-Hardee added a layup, but the Tritons once again got consecutive three-pointers, this time from Haleigh Hatfield, to go up 46-31. Madison Corder hit a layup with just over three left to get in the score column, and Stephens made another jumper near the top of the key in the closing minute, and she added another with 27 seconds left off a dish from Edwards to bring the score to 53-39 at the break.
Pugh got the Gators on the board in the third with a nice spinning layup from the left side, making it 55-41. Lesa-Hardee converted from deep on the right side off an assist from Lamonea, making it 60-45 with just over six left, but the hosts continued to roll offensively with their tenth three-pointer of the contest to go up by 20. Lamonea returned for another three-pointer at the 5:25 mark, however UC San Diego widened the lead with a 24-point frame to go up 77-54.
Edwards hit the contested layup to start the fourth, and later assisted on a three-pointer from Lamonea on the left side with under seven left to make things 85-61. UC San Diego unitized another run to reach the 90-point plateau before Stephens hit a jumper near the free throw line with 5:30 remaining in regulation. The Tritons got an insurance three with just over three left to get closer to triple digits, and Fleming made consecutive jumpers to close out the Gator scoring.
